Carlson Rezidor was one of the first hotel companies to have a dedicated programme for Responsible Business. In 2009 Carlson Rezidor decided to raise the awareness and understanding of their workforce with regards to Social, Ethical and Environmental Responsibility. An ambitious target was set to train 30,000 employees, across the group’s hotels within a 12–month period.
What we did
We designed and delivered two Responsible Business training modules:
Living Responsible Business is a mandatory training for all staff members inspiring employees to make a difference both at home and at work – and provides information and practical tips on how they can do this.
Leading Responsible Business targets Heads of Departments and Hotel Managers. It encourages them to make maximum use of the tools available to respond to Responsible Business demands from stakeholders as diverse as guests, employees, owners and the local community.
The new training begins with an introduction to Responsible Business and its three pillars – health and wellbeing, social and ethical issues, and a reduced negative impact on the environment. It is linked to Carlson Rezidor’s unique employee service attitude programme “Yes I Can!” – resulting in a culture based on motivation, passion and creativity. Following successful pilots we developed and implemented a Responsible Business Train the Trainer programme, supporting the consistent delivery and implementation of the modules.
The Living and Leading Responsible Business modules we developed included an innovative container with Leaders Guide, Visuals, DVDs and Worksheets. Following translation into 14 languages, 25 Responsible Business Master Trainers and 700 Responsible Business Hotel Trainers were trained to deliver the modules across all hotels. Hotel Trainers delivered training on site, and achieved the goal of training all 30,000 employees across all levels within 12 months.
